Ways to clear your mind before a test

By Assaf Biton, Semesterz

Let’s be honest, tests can be really stressful, and many of us freak out in the build up to our exams. This can lead to a whole host of problems, such as stress, anxiety, and worry. It’s easy to place a huge emphasis on the importance of your exams at a young age. But, you need to understand that your life is not necessarily defined by the tests you sit when you are younger.

Nevertheless, it is easy to become nervous or worried a lot of the time, and it’s essential to look for solutions. Clearing your mind is really important because it helps you find an inner peace and stops you from worrying unduly. So, let’s look at some of the ways you can clear your mind before a big test, to give you better clarity and improve your chances of performing well.

Rest well

[post_ads]Rest is so important in all areas of life, and, you may not think it, but it plays a massive role in your mental health as well. If you have had sufficient rest, you will be much more refreshed and rejuvenated, and your brain will function at a better level. This will make you more attentive during the test, improving your ability to answer questions effectively. You should aim to get around 8 hours of sleep per night and take the time to rest if you have had a busy day. Switching off for a while is a great way of resting your brain.

Do something unrelated

It’s really important to spend time doing something other than revision or thinking about your tests. The classic mistake people make is to spend all their time focusing on the test and preparing for it by doing countless hours of revision. But, at some point, this is actually becoming counter productive. You need to take the time to do something that’s completely unrelated to help you switch off from the stress of the test. Doing something unrelated, such as reading a book or playing a game, is a fantastic way to switch off and unwind.

Listen to music

Music is an excellent form of relaxation for mind and biodynamic. Sometimes it can be really beneficial to simply sit there and listen to music for a while. Something like classical music is perfect for getting rid of stress and calming you down. We would recommend getting your headphones on and just lying down to relax. You should also think about going for a walk while listening to music, as this can be highly therapeutic. Music is one of the best ways of unwinding and clearing your mind before facing a big test.

Exercise

One of the best ways of clearing your mind is actually by exercising. When you exercise or work out, it releases endorphins, and these are really great for cleaning the mind and calming you down. So, a bit of time in the gym, or even going for a run beforehand would be absolutely ideal. Try to make sure you get a decent amount of exercise in the build up to your test, particularly if you are feeling stressed out or anxious.

Talk about your feelings

Believe it or not, a good way of clearing your mind can often be to talk about your problems. If you are experiencing stress or anxiety because of the tests and exams you’ll be facing, you need to make sure you don’t bottle that up. Talking to someone about it, even if it’s just a friend or family member, is an excellent way of getting that stress and worry out – by keeping it bottled up you’re likely to make things worse.
