So you're trying to figure out what kind of career you want
to have. Of course, there are multiple things to take into
consideration, some of which are more important to some people than
others: What are your passions and interests? What is the anticipated salary
for that kind of role? What kind of schooling or major is necessary for
it? What kind of day-to-day work life will lead, and is it compatible
with your personality? While a lot of this info can be found from
internships, talking to people in those jobs, talking to counselors at
school, and just general research, "best jobs" lists like this new one
from Glassdoor can also help give you some more intel when you're trying to pick your path.
As Yahoo Finance points out, Glassdoor recently released a new report
featuring the top 50 jobs in America. They were selected based on
number of job openings, earnings potential, and employee satisfaction.
The top five ranked:
- Data scientist: $110,000 median base salary and 4,184 job openings
- DevOps engineer: $110,000 median base salary and 2,7,25 job openings
- Data engineer: $106,000 median base salary and 2,599 job openings
- Tax manager: $110,000 median base salary and 3,317 job openings
- Analytics manager: $112,000 median base salary and 1,958 job openings

To determine its job score, according to Yahoo Finance,
the company in question had to have received at least 100 employer
reviews and 100 salary reports since January 2017. From there, the
employer received both a satisfaction rating and overall score out of
five.
Keep in mind, though, that you, personally, might
be far better suited to thrive at a more under-the-radar gig. As we
collectively shatter the glass ceiling and push down the — ahem — glass door, recognize that there is room for vertical movement for talented and ambitious professionals in virtually any field.
